Nostalgic street project

2019-03-14_17-53-37During my recent visit to Saint Petersburg in January, I took an old phone book my parents still keep at home, and created a map of all stores, cafes, and other services that were existed on Bolshoi prospect (the “Big Avenue”) in my native district of the city, Petrogradskaya Storona. I mapped it, first in QGIS, printed the map, walked up and down the street with my dad, who helped me identify where exactly the shops on my list were located. I enjoyed this nostalgic tour with my dad but felt a little sorry that I could not see, what the street looked like in 1980. So I came to the idea to find some old photos and map them, to try to recreate the main street of Petrogradskaya Storona in 1980. It is still work in progress, but I’ve found some photos already. Click on the point to see the photo! Hovering over the points shows the description of the shop. [in Russian!]
